The massive loan of the second-largest water utility company in the Czech Republic, serving over a million people, has caused uncertainty among mayors of towns and municipalities to whom the company supplies drinking water and disposes of wastewater.

For many years, a new waste law has been prepared in the Czech Republic. However, due to the short lifespan of environmental ministers, the proposals often end up in a drawer. As a result, the waste law, even after many amendments, has not met the country's needs for many years. With a recycling rate of 35 percent, the Czech Republic lags behind the European Union average of 43 percent and successful European countries that recycle over 60 percent of municipal waste.
